Without a doubt this had to be one of those awesome Shopping Sprees I always wished I could win back in the early–mid ’80s. I think they gave you 5–10 minutes to fill up your cart with whatever you wanted.
I seriously used to imagine/fantasize myself in that situation and would draw a mental map as to what aisle and what toy(s) I’d pull from the shelf. That must’ve been so cool to win.
Exactly. You remember the “Win a Toys R Us Shopping Spree” campaign by Marvel Comics in the early ’80s? There was a huge banner across the top of all the books.
By ’87 we both would have preferred a Tower Records, I’m sure, but can you imagine how stoked this dude is today when he thinks back on this day?
That’s probably what I remember it from. I wasn’t a big comic reader, but I had friends that were into it, and I’m sure I must have seen at least one issue/ad that was left forever embedded in my brain. Dood, who wouldn’t have been thrilled to win that? That’s so hilarious that they would have Geoffrey come down to cheer you on.
Lol. You’re right, by ’87 I would’ve totally preferred a Tower (or better yet, Rhino) Records shopping spree, but still, I would totally love to hear a story from one of those winners.
