Fascinating. The year is my best guess. Defender came out for the 2600 in 1981, and the 2600 here looks like the four-switch “woody” model, first produced in 1980. We had ON TV for a short time, a subscription service that would unscramble participating UHF channels. In September of 1982, ON TV aired Star Wars for the first time ever on national TV on a pay-per-views basis, despite very few households being wired for the service.

Dood! ON-TV. Awesome find.
Did you notice they’re playing on two different TVs? I wonder why they switched between the two. I bet you the kid begged his parents to hook his Atari up to the big TV, then after some conference between mom and pop, they gave in. =D
I didn’t notice that. What’s funny is that both screens are so bloody tiny. It shouldn’t really make a difference, but damn, it sure did back then.
ON-TV! My first experience was watching the Sword and the Sorcerer at my bother’s apartment.
My folks used to have a ONTV box too. Got rid of it around ’83 or ’84 – whenever we bought our VCR.
Our neighbors across the street had Spectrum. Really don’t know too much about that one besides it was a competitor. Would love to see a box of that one!
