Disney to Release New Star Wars Movie in 2015

Disney just bought Lucasfilm for $4 billion. Says George Lucas, about 12 years too late, “It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers.”

I wish I could be optimistic about Episode 7, but, as the song says, I won’t get fooled again. If there’s an entity more corporatized and bereft of originality than Lucas, it’s Disney.

After they’ve completely obliterated the franchise with three movies, there will be a direct to video release of “Star Wars 9.5: A R2D2 Family Christmas”.

If Disney gets someone like Joss Whedon (The Avengers) to do the next one, I will be hopeful.

But more likely it will resemble John Carter of Mars, one of the lousiest sci-fi flicks I’ve ever seen.
