I’m thinking of starting a separate category called “When Carpet Was King,” or something like that. There was a distinctive interior design aesthetic in the ’70s because people of ordinary means could afford houses.
The 21st century has no style because everybody’s renting or living in housing developments.

I’m thinking of creating a “comfy-itchy couch” category (or whatever other name I can come up with) on my site. I’m starting to see them more and more in those old pics.
But MAN that’s some funky carpet. Dood, wth. Priceless.
The problem is, with today’s “pop-up” homes everything is pre-fab and supplied, so if the residents are cool with the default styling (which is probably the case, most of the time), they won’t go out of the way for unique and individual interior decor. Why fix it if it ain’t broke, right?
That’s why I used to laugh and at the same time get sad whenever I watched the original intros to that “Weeds” series, because the whole “ticky-tacky” portrayal was all too real. Comedic yet terribly tragic at the same time.
Awesome pic! I wonder if carpet like that is still available…
I sure hope so.
