Kenner’s Death Star didn’t come from nowhere. Any “greatest playsets of all time” list must include Mattel’s Space Station.

I first got a glimpse of Matt Mason on this collection of ’60s and ’70s toys commercials I have on DVD. Have you seen this commercial? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R99hAG0tgkg
A moon base AND a 60s cocktail party (0:52)! I am so there…
I always laugh around :44 when he remarks that the giant’s “a friendly one that spent his boyhood on Mars.” Like we’re supposed to breathe a sigh of relief that he won’t crush Mason, right?
Dood. Spent his boyhood on Mars. Alone? Did he have friends? Hmm.
Man, that cocktail party. Kick ass. Freakin’ killer too, that the house would have a backyard totally tailor-made for super awesome moonscape Matt Mason adventures. lol
The cocktail party. Holy shit. Back when parents and kids had separate lives.
That is almost the Death Star playset!
WANT.
Also want to see more Matt Mason posts. I loved these things as a kid!
One of the greatest toy lines ever. I’ll work on featuring more.
