Kid: “Asteroids! Atari Asteroids! Except… Dad, dad, we don’t have Atari.”
Mom: “What’s Atari?”
So classic.
(Technically, it’s not a 2600. It’s an Atari Video Computer System. Relax, nerds.)

I checked once, years ago, and the only place my VCS has “2600” anywhere is as a part of a longer model number designation on an ID sticker on the underside of it. Kids back then didn’t call it a VCS or a 2600; we all called it an Atari.
After the 5200 came out (1982), they changed the box to say 2600. Here’s one from ’83:

But yeah, before that, Atari was Atari. Unless you had Pong or one of these bad boys:

Man, I remember the Christmas I got my Atari. That was a fantastic Christmas.
Best toy I ever got, X-Mas or not. =)
What joys and wonders were felt when an Atari 800 home computer system entered my life. One of the most epic moments of my childhood.
