A computer day camp in Chicago, December, 1979. PCs on display include the Apple II, the TRS-80, and the TI-99/4. The latter was brand new at the time. There’s another one I can’t identify to the right of the kid raising his hand. It looks a little like a Commodore PET.

Note the Garfield notebook in the first shot, and the BASIC code in the second. The kid typing the code (you can read all of it starting with line 95) is wearing an Izod sweater.

Terrific all-around coverage of an early lab and the kids who got to use it.

I was such a latecomer. I didn’t goto computer camp until 1983 or so. And it was all Apple ][+ and ][e in my area, despite growing up in IBM central…

Hey man, you got your love right here dood. I didn’t see the post until now, but you totally nailed it.

I guess I’m a latecomer too; I didn’t even start BASIC programming until I was in 7th Grade, which was about ’83. But it was the best class ever (Basic Computing). And even in that year the class was all nerds. Lol I even think it was all doods, too. I barely remember seeing any girls in there, and even if there were, it seemed that they were only hanging out just to ditch some other class.

Uh oh, we’ve got a name card on that second photo. Jorie Johnson? Shall we reach out and see if we can find him?
