Catalog diving never gets old. We were conditioned at an early age, and the sight and smell of these filmy, glossy pages is like the ringing of Pavlov’s buzzer.
I was surprised to see that the Micronauts Battle Cruiser ($19.95) was more expensive than the Death Star ($17.95). Mego just couldn’t recover after rejecting the Star Wars license, although I think the Micronauts line, even in its last throes, is more creative.
I love the Super Joe toys, including Terron, shown at the bottom of the second page. You can see commercials here and here.
The “Sonic Ear” is new to me. It amplifies sound, which is pretty lame, but what a great looking gun to take into a space battle.
Don’t miss the Fonz watch—the strap is denim-colored, naturally—on the last page.

Those Sonic Ears were always in the catalogues — I only ever encountered one once in the wild. It worked AMAZINGLY well for a plastic toy. Unfortunately there wasn’t much around to eavesdrop on.
Eavesdropping. I forgot about that. Many points added.
Shouldn’t the Fonzie watch strap have been made of leather?
Point well taken. Denim-colored vinyl was cheaper, and more important, kitschier!
I had Terron and Stretch Armstrong! Stretch broke and “bled” on my bookshelf. I remember his blood took the paint off with it.
You’re lucky the blood didn’t eat through your entire house. God knows what was in that stuff.
Terron is uniquely silly, and thus awesome.
Man, this is great. It’s like they went to my house when I was a kid and took photos of my toy collection! From these pages, I had:
Page 1
Most of the Star Wars figures
The X-Wing and the Tie-Fighter
The Starbird Spaceship
The Micronauts Battle Cruiser
Time Traveler Micronauts
Page 2
Shogun Warrior Raydeen
Super Joe Commander
Stretch Armstrong
Page 3
Sonic Ear
Page 4
Energized Spider-Man
Spider-Copter
Mego Batman, Robin, Superman, and Spider-Man
Page 5
Mickey Mouse Watch
Lucky kid! I really, really wanted the giant Shogun Warriors…
“I was surprised to see that the Micronauts Battle Cruiser ($19.95) was more expensive than the Death Star ($17.95).” – No way.
The death star playset wasn’t very good. It’s a chintzy cardboard and plastic dollhouse with 2 or 3 moving pieces. The Battle Cruiser was remote controlled. It transformed into 3 different vehicles. It had two child-size pistols that shot rubber ball tipped darts.
The cruiser was waaaaay better!
I wish I had that catalog. Somewhere, I’m on one of the pages wearing a cowboy outfit as a 7 year old.
