Spiderbike, Spiderbuggy, and Spidercopter (Corgi, 1979)

Corgi Spidey 1979-3

For those of you amused by the inaccuracy (and irrelevance) of Corgi’s Star Trek II Klingon Warship, I present these gems. The Spidercopter has an “amazing flicking spider tongue,” which Mary Jane may or may not have appreciated. A Spidervan came in the same series.

Oh what I would’ve done to be at the product design meetings for that helicopter.

“Ok guys, we need something cool about this Spidercopter. C’mon. Anyone?”

(Some collective audible muttering/brainstorming amongst those in attendance. Then an exec at far end of the table raises hand) – “Flicking Spider Tongue.”

    “A…flicking…spider…tongue? WOW. Genius!”

That Spidey cycle reminds me of one I had when I was a kid, but it was an orange motorcyle that was a friction toy. Rev it up, let it go and watch Spidey pop wheelies. The rubber Spider-man on it came off the bike. It was actually a pretty good likeness given the other popular figures of him back then. I played with him with my Comic Action Heroes figures (I didn’t like the Comic Action Hero version of Spider-man).
