I had this set! I tried various dungeon floor sets over the years and generally prefer a regular battlemat instead, but I actually liked this set a lot.
Very interesting. The minis are Heritage USA models, the typeface on the logo and box description are the same as Heritage used; the art sure looks like the stuff David Helber did for Heritage, and the somewhat prominent “we are not TSR or TSR sanctioned” notice all make me think Genesis must have been an offshoot — either right before or shortly after Heritage went belly up. 😦
Hmm, just found a reference to the company filing for incorporation in 1984 so it was post-Heritage. They also bought up some of the games like Dwarfstar. Fascinating.
Helber was the designer and he and Tom Maxwell did the art! This is the first time I’d heard about Genesis Gaming Products.
I never got them but I remember really coveting them at the time.
Looks a little like the old Avalon Hill tile game Sorcerers Cave. Remember that?
Totally forgot about that game, but I remember the ad and box! Need to do a post on it…
I’ve still got a copy of the spin-off Mystic Wood.
