Circus World Toys, 1978

Circus World, Desoto Square Mall, Bradenton, FL 1978

The location is DeSoto Square Mall in Bradenton, Florida. The big stack of games on the left is Ideal’s Battling Spaceships (1977). I also see Kenner’s Super Shift 600 and a Coleco CB-40 Transceiver Base. There’s a Welcome Back, Kotter toy of some sort underneath the boy’s head, and it doesn’t look like the classroom playset. Anyone know what it is?

This really takes me back. I grew up in Bradenton in the ’70s and ’80s and spent many a Saturday afternoon at DeSoto Square Mall. Circus World (which later became a Kay Bee in the ’90s) was one of my favorite stores, along with Waldenbooks and Camelot Music. You can’t see it in the photo, but just to the left of the entrance was a large glass display case where they kept the (pricey for the time) Don Post “Star Wars” masks.
