Barbie has plenty of access to the kitchen, but not the pilot’s seat. Really colorful 1972 set that mirrors the decor of the real deal. It looks like Mattel toned it down in 1974, according to that year’s JCPenney Christmas catalog.

There’s a lot of weirdness here like
1. Why would the kitchen take up as much room as the passage compartment?
2. Why would you need a complete kitchen for 2 passangers
3. Why is there no bathroom
Most troubling is why is there a large diet cola can in the photo?
I think the whole deluxe kitchen thing reflects the ever-standing tradition of “girl toys,” where it’s expected that they would value domestic, housewife duties most, lol …I’m guessing that since it’s Barbie’s own personal jet, she would want it to have everything that she had at home.
Wow. The more I look at that JCPenney catalog shot, I notice how much they really play up the whole “service” aspect of the playset. Aside from the luxe kitchen, the only accessories are the service cart, food and beverages! Yup, the only fantasy in this playset is for Barbie to play stewardess and serve that hungry pilot like she should!
Oh and also, I think that soda can may have been placed in the shot for a size comparison…
Yup.
That’s a really neat playset. G x
